> Bentley GT_V8 hits the East Coast

Given its politically unstable climes, a last minute call moved a Bentley gig from Lebanon to here in Dubai. Off we went, with a handful of chosen customers for a wild coast-to-coast drive taking in the mountains, the desert and the open roads.

With the convoy of seven cars we must have topped 3,500 bhp, the power equivalent of a modern day diesel locomotive, you know the ones you see pulling these long trains. Which one goes faster, the question remains!

Taking a mere 4.2 seconds to get up to 100km/hr makes the V8 a demon of speed. Unfortunately I didn’t get to drive but instead hang out of the passenger window shooting the action behind us. All in all, it was great fun but I had my doubts thanks to the 43c reading on the temperature gauge. Ever wondered when the wind chill factor really kicks in? Cruising the roads at 130km/hr certainly comes close! The route was awesome with a mix of scenery, some cool curly roads and a distinct lack of speed cameras. My thanks to Fraser Martin for pulling it together.

My takeaways from the day?

Speed is good, even if it feels like a deep fryer.

Stay clear of anything that says Armani Hotel Dubai. An element of security is of course expected but there is no reason to turn into a bunch of a…holes. I was blown away by their arrogance. Surely guys you can do much better to properly deserve your 5 star rating.

And on a more positive note, don’t let the summer heat stop you from getting outside. Nike just announced they’re extending their club runs for another month, a sand dune still beats the office, it still rained in the Hajar mountains last week and Madonna performed an a kick-ass al fresco concert two nights ago!
