On BIG occasions we pack the flagship Hasselblad H4D 50, especially when size matters. Fifty megapixels in each individual frame makes for an insane amount of detail. For this shoot, we were filling up a 64m x 24m billboard so yes producing a substan
tial file was paramount.
We were shooting the new little red Skoda Fabia. I did some extensive location scouting and the rugged mountain backdrop is what matched the brand positioning best. I’m a strong believer in early morning light so subtracting the 1 ½ drive to get there and a 5.30am sunrise, this meant take off at 4am! Crazy hours but working with such sweet light is always worth it. It’s also a great yet easy way to manage crowd control as you avoid the entourage of agency and client crews all trying to have their say!
We got most of the shoot covered early morning but I still wanted to grab a few extra shots in the afternoon. To kill some time, we set base at the Hatta Fort resort for a hit of civilisation, a chance to download some imagery and to escape the roaring heat … yup summer is on its way! Afternoon came and we worked on shooting some dynamic driving shots. I pushed for the last shot sequence of the day … the rock, the metal rig, the light angle. Having eyed this frame a week prior, I knew it had great potential. It worked wonders and turned out to be my favourite shot of the day. Thank you Mark for getting up early and helping out, to the guys at Spark for spreading their creative bug and to the Skoda team … you’ll be reminded how great your car looks every time you pass Sedra building.
Wk.
